The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The charts featured in task 1 illustrate the proportion of British students at one university in England who were capable of communicating in other languages different from English for the period of two years in 2000 and 2010.

First of all, let us look at the year 2000. According to the chart, only 70% of the total number of students were actively included in other languages interaction. The most popular way of communication was in the Spanish language with 20% students included. Turning to the other languages showed in the chart, one can observe that French was on the second place with 15% of students being involved. As for German language, students demonstrated the interest with the total number of 10% which is the same as the occupation with another language and two other languages data for the same year.

Moving onto the second chart for the year 2010, we can notice that the number of students included in language programs dropped for 5% and, as a result, reached 65% in total. In this period, the most popular language other than English was French showing a slight increase in comparison to 2001. It is followed by German with 10% of students taking part in the course and concluded with two other languages and another language with 10% students on the program, respectively.

If we analyze the data from the chart, we can clearly observe that interest of the students for other languages hasn't changed drastically over the two years. Except the fact that total proportion of students involved in language course slightly decreased, we cannot see any dramatic fluctuation in the total level of students attending the language classes.

Overall, one could say that generally young people were willing to participate in other language education, which consequently leads to the conclusion that language courses were enough engaging in the aforementioned years.
