The charts illustrate the number of people who were affected by four types of noise pollution in day and night in cities and rural areas in 2007

The bar charts give information about the number of people suffering from four kinds of noise pollution, including traffic, trains, aircraft, and industry, at different times of day in rural and urban areas in 2007.

In general, the number of people who were affected by traffic noise in both areas mentioned was the largest in 2007, while the figure for noise from industry was the smallest. It is also apparent that noise pollution had more adverse effects on individuals during the day than at night.

In metropolitan areas, the influence of noise pollution coming from vehicles on people was the largest, with 64 million people in the daytime and 48 million at night. The rural areas followed the same trend, with 34 million people affected during the day and another 24 million at night. By contrast, industrial activities almost had no effect on individuals living in the countryside, while the effect in cities was inconsiderable, with 1 million in the daytime and 0.25 million at night.

Besides, there was an insignificant disparity between the number of people suffering from train noise in cities and suburbs, at 10 million and 8 million, respectively, during the daytime and 8 million and 6 million, respectively, at night. Noise pollution from aircraft had more influence on individuals who settled in urban areas in the daytime (4 million) than on citizens living in rural areas in the daytime (2 million), whereas only 1 million people in both areas were affected by the kind of transport at night.
