The diagram below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagram delineates the life cycle of large salmon fish in three main stages of development. The size and the location variation throughout it's life is shown.

First, an adult salmon fish, which is about 70-76 cm in length, lays the eggs among small stones that are present under the reeds. This is done where the reeds grow at the upper side of the river and the water flows slow here. This environment is suitable for the eggs to stay without moving for approximately 5-6 months until the fish comes out. The fry fish that hatches will be of 3-8 centimeters in length. The fry fish, after reaching the fast flowing lower part of the river, will live there for about 4 years.

During the four year period, the fry fish grows into this smolt fish of 12-15 centimeters length and contributes to the second stage of development. After this, the smolt salmon fish moves into open sea and stays there for around five years.

In the third stage, after 5 years in open sea, development as adult salmon will complete the life cycle as these adult salmons are the ones that lay eggs later.

The difference in size is obvious in all the stages. While it takes only months for the eggs to get hatched, the period of development increases in the next two stages in years. Support is needed for the eggs to stay still, but the fishes don't need any. And, the speed of the river differs in upward manner as the stage changes.
