The diagram demonstrates the phases of life of a type of fish named salmon.
Overall, the life cycle of salmon consists three primary stages, starting from eggs and ending when the fish are fully mature and produce their next generation.
This type of aquatic creatures lay their pea sized eggs in the upper river with slow flow of water. They are surrounded by some small stones in the reeds and it takes them approximately five to six months to hatch. The "fry" fish, the size of which is from three to eight centimeters, then move to the lower position where has faster current.
In the following step, after nearly four years, the baby fish grow up and become "smolt" ones which are three to four times bigger. Afterwards, they migrate to open sea for around half of a decade and then reach maturity. The "adult salmon", whose length from 70 to 76 cm, return to their original river to start reproducing and the life cycle starts over again.
