The diagram below show some principles of house design for cool and for warm climates
The diagrams illustrate basic rules for designing houses in two separate climates namely cool and warm climates.
Overall, it is clear that the notable differences between houses in the two climate areas are the shape of the house’s roof as well as the construction of windows.
In the cool climate, we can see that the house has a high-angled roof to allow sunlight goes inside it through the window; whereas the roof in warm climate house has a peak in the middle in order to reduce heat and roof overhangs to shade windows from sunlight. There is only one big window facing directly the sun in the first type of house. However, the second one has two windows on both sides, under the shade of the roof, which are closed during the day and only opened at night to allow cool air flows inside.
Moreover, building material and insulation are also significantly different. The insulation and thermal building material are attached around the house which results in storing heat. On the contrary, houses in warm weather are constructed with insulation on the roof and the floor and also the reflective roof material to reduce the house’s temperature.
