The diagram shows a set of processes in a power plant which produce electicity by using flow of water.

First step is that water is carried by river and stocked in a high-level reservoir with the help of the dam. Stocked water itself has a lot of potential energy to produce electricity. In daylight, intake is opened by operator to flow water to the powerplant with the gravitational force. Flowing water turns potential energy into kinetic energy to spin the turbines. Spinned turbines provide energy to run the generators which generates electricity. Used water is stocked in a low-level reservoir to send back to a high-level reservoir.

At night, turbines start to run as a pump which send back the water into high-level reservoir. However, it requires energy to run the turbines. This energy is provided by electricity which generated on this power plant at daylight

To sum up, when this processes are completed, produced electricity is carried to national grid with the power lines.
