The diagrams illustrate the life cycle of silk worm as well as the phases in making silk cloth.
Overall, it is clearly evident that, producing silk cloth mainly entails 2 major processes;natural and artificial. However, the life cycle of silkworm is cyclical with 4 stages, while production of silk cloth is linear process with 3 steps.
Firstly, eggs are laid by moth on a large leaf. After a period of 10 days, the eggs are developed into silkworm larva and they resort to mulberry leaf as feed.Following this, silk thread is formed after a maximum of 6 weeks and after roughly a week a cocoon is formed. Lastly, after 2 weeks, there is maturation of cocoon into moth, which initiates the cycle again
To make silk cloth, the cocoons are carefully selected and boiled in water. They are then unwound into thread, ranging from 300-900m, before they are twisted and woven into dye to attain silk cloth.
