The first chart bellow shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The following pie charts provide some information about the amount of energy which is consumed by different appliances in ordinary Australian families and how much CO2 is produced via appliances’ energy usage.
As can be clearly observed from the first pie chart, heating and water heating are the most energy consumer parts in Australian households, by 42% and 30% respectively. By contrast, cooling by 2% and lighting by 4% consume the least energy of an ordinary household in Australia. Despite the fact that the share of refrigeration is 7%, other appliances are responsible for consuming 15% of energy.
With regard to the second pie chart, the proportions of greenhouse gas emissions by both water heating and other appliances are virtually equal which are 32% and 28%. Unlike heating which is blamed to release 15% of CO2 in the air of Australia, cooling appliances emit far less carbon dioxide about 3%. Refrigeration produces 14% of greenhouse gas in an average Australian household that is far more than 8% of lighting.
It is clear from the pie charts that although heating alongside with water heating consume more than 70% of household energy in Australia, water heating and other appliances emit about two-third of greenhouse gases.
