The line graphs show the average monthly amount that parents in British spent on their children’s spotting events and the number of children who took part in three kinds of sports over a period of 6 years.
It is clear that parents’ spending on children’s sports increased constantly over the period shown. In terms of the number of children taking part, football was significantly more popular than athletics and swimming.
In 2008, British parents spent an average of roughly 20 pounds per month on their children’s sporting activities. The amount of money spent on British children’s sports by their parents rose gradually, and had risen to over 30 pounds by the year 2014.
Looking at the number of participants, in 2008 around 8 million British children took part in playing football, while only 2 million children participated in swimming clubs and less than 1 million children in Britain practice athletics. Over the following 6 years, the figure for participants in football remained stable relatively. By contrast, swimming had seen a dramatic growth in number of participants and reached approximately 4 million, which was almost twofold of its figure in 2008. Besides, there was a nearly fivefold increase in the number of children doing athletics.
