The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the percentage of greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The first pie chart given illustrates the amount of energy used for different activities in a common home in Australia and the second one indicates the percentage of greenhouse gas generated by each of these activities.
Overall, heating requires more energy than the rest, while the largest amount of pollution is produced during water heating. Cooling presents the lowest percentages in both charts.
A median house in Australia uses up to nearly three quarters of the energy in heating (42%) and water heating (30%). Then, other appliances and refrigeration take up 15% and 7% of it respectively. Lastly, lighting (4%) and cooling (2%) demand insignificant proportions of this energy.
Talking about the total of greenhouse emissions from an Australian home, heating produces more or less a third (15%) of the amount of energy that it takes up. The rest of activities generate more pollution than energy consumed. Water heating creates approximately one third (32%), while refrigeration and other appliances are responsible for 14% and 28% of it respectively. Finally, lighting (8%) and cooling (3%) are accountable for about a tenth of the amount of released gas.
