The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
In the first pie chart, the percentage distribution of energy use in an average Australian household
is portrayed. The percentage of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from this energy use is
demonstrated in the second pie chart.
At first, it can be interpreted from the first pie chart that in an average Australian householod
cooling requires the lowest percentage of energy use whuch is 2% followed by lighting which uses 4%
of total energy use. Refrigation takes up 7% of the usage of energy. The major percentages of energy
consumption are for water heating with 30% consumption and heating with 42% consumption which
is the highest perentage of energy use. Other household appliances uses 15% of the total energy
distribution. Secondly, from the second pie chart, the pecentage distribution of greenhouse gas
emissions from the same household appliances shows that water heating is responsible for the
highest percentage of emission that is 32%. 15% of the greenhouse gas is produced due to heating
and refrageration produces alomost similar percentage of emission that is 14%. Lighting and cooling
release comparatively smalller percentage of the poisonous gas into nature with 8% and 3%
emissions respectively. Remaining 28% gas emissions is beacuse of other appliances.
From both of the pie charts, it can be interpreted that in an average Australian household, the
relation of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission is almost proportional. Cooling with
lowest percentage of energy consumption, produces the lowest percentage of greenhouse gas.
Lightins exhibits similar feature. The activities heating and water heating which uses the highest
amount of energy, also releases the major percentage of greeanhouse gas. Other household
activities show almost similar proportional relation.
