The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projection until 2030.
The line graph illustrates America’s fuel consumption from 1980 to the projection in 2030, which was reported in 2008.
Overall, it is clear that the American has consumed the largest amount of petrol and oil; whereas the use of nuclear,
solar/wind and hydropower was at the lowest throughout the period surveyed. Units are measured in quadrillion units.
In 1980, American citizens consumed 35 quadrillion units of petrol and oil; then the figure experienced a sharp fluctuation in the next 28 years before being predicted to go up to nearly 50 quadrillion units in 2030. It was followed by the use of coal and natural gas which stood at above 15 and 20 quadrillion units respectively in 1980. The consumption of the former has increased significantly until 2030 while the latter fluctuated slightly in the first 35 years and is expected to remain unchanged at around 24 quadrillion units during the remaining time.
Meanwhile, the use of nuclear, solar/wind, and hydropower stood at below 5 quadrillion units at the beginning, then the amount of nuclear used has gone up to around 8 quadrillion units, 2 quadrillion units higher than solar/ wind and approximately 5 quadrillion units higher than hydropower.
