The graph illustrates the average carbon dioxide emissions per person in four different countries between the years 1967 and 2007.
Looking at the curve for United Kingdom, it is clear that carbon dioxide emission from 1967 to 1977 was almost the same. After 1977 it started to decrease from about 11 metric tonnes to about 7 metric tonnes in the year 2007.
It can be seen from the graph of Sweden that there was a considerable increase in carbon dioxide emission from 1967 to 1977, about 2 metric tonnes. After 1977, there was a steep reduction in the following 10 years period, when it reached to about 7 metric tonnes. Then there was a more gradual decrease reaching less than 6 metric tonnes.
In Italy, emission grew in a rapid fashion from 1967 to 1977, after which the rate of increase was very slow until 1987. In the next decade the rate increased, reaching the emission more than 7 metric tonnes. From 1997 to 2007 the emission was constant.
Portugal has the least amount of emission among the other three countries. It had a gradual increase from 1967 in the next 20 years, after which the emission increased very rapidly until 1997. In the next 10 years the emission was constant in a slightly more than 5 metric tonnes.
