The graph compares the amount of three kinds of fat (namely butter, margarine and low fat) consumed over a 26-year period from 1981 to 2007.
Overall, butter and margarine saw a significant decline in their consumption, while low fat had a marked rise. The interesting point is that butter reached the peak of consumption in 1988.
Butter was more popular fat at the beginning, which the popularity replaced by margarine between 1981 and 2001, following which low fat was a well widely fat in the final years.
With respect to the graph, it can be figured out that butter stood at the approximately 140 gram. Despite having the peak of fat consumption at 160 gram in 1986, its consumption declined dramatically to around 50 gram. Margarine was the second rand of fat consumption between 1981 and 1991, and the consumption of margarine exceeded from butter. after which it saw a steady decline in its consumption.
Low fat was introduced in 1996 and its consumption rose remarkably between 1996 and 2007. In spite of being the more popular, its consumption fell slightly to about 70 gram at the end.
