The graph below shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
The bar chart gives information about commuters employing different transport modes(train, car, tube, and bus) to travel to and from work in one European city in the three years of 1960, 1980, and 2000. Overall, it is clear that cars were becoming popular in commuting, while buses were less useful.
In 1960, among the four modes, buses, with almost 39% commuters, were most often used, which were followed by tubes(about 28% passengers) and trains(just under 20% passengers) respectively. However, cars, with merely around 7% commuters, were the least popular.
Over the period of these years, the proportion of car passengers showed a dramatically increasing trend, rising to about 23% in 1980, and in 2000, peaking at the highest point(almost 37%). By contrast, the figures for people using buses presented an opposite trend, declining to about 26% in 1980, and in 2000, bottoming out at 15%.
However, the number of people using trains experienced a fluctuation during this period, rising to about 28% in 1980, and falling back to around 21% in 2000. By contrast, a different fluctuation could be seen in the percentage of people taking tubes. It at first declined to approximately 23% in 1980 and in 2000 increased back, less slightly, to 25%.
