The figure elucidates the amount of complaints made about noise to environmental health bureaucrat in New town from 1980 to 1996. At first glance, it is evident that the most noticeable changes occurred for the total of complaints for the noise of road works.
To begin with, the complaints of the road works and the traffic noise remained stable for the first 4 years, and plunged sharply approximately to 400 for road works and two-thirds of 300 for traffic noise. Afterwards, the number of road works’ and traffic noise complaints jumped dramatically over the following 8 years, soaring to just above 1200 and 600 respectively.
In contrast, 1980 to 1996 witnessed a gradual drop for domestic or household’s complaints where it, initially, stood at well beneath four-fifths of 1000 and finished at well under 200 in 1996. In accordance with factories, there was a remarkable upsurge for factories’ complaints between 1980, which made up at 400, and 1990, which constituted at well beyond 600. Unfortunately, it plummeted moderately in the next 6 years to just above 600.
