The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

This graph provides the trends of people aged 65 and beyond within the years, 1940 and 2040 in three different nations.

Looking from all perspectives, it is readily apparent that the graph has shown an upward trend in all provided countries. Apparently, it is the USA who has got the highest figure of 65 years old people in 1940, showing at almost 10% and it is followed by Sweden and Japan respectively. However, the table has turned in 2000 and beyond, whereby the population of Sweden outnumbered that of the US and reached its first peak at 20%. Surprisingly, the number of 65-year old Japanese will exceed the rest of the countries in the future, precisely in 2030, with its percentage at 22%. By the end of the prediction, in 2040, Japan, the country with the lowest oldest people at the start of the survey, will likely stand at the first place, covering more than a quarter of its entire population whilst Sweden only has its quarter and the US has covered merely around 23% of its people.

To sum up, despite having the upward trends, the countries that convey the highest figures are different, depicting the fact that Japan, which was once the country with the least people in their 60s, has a tendency to be the country with the highest number in 2040 while the figures for Sweden and the USA seem smaller although they have increasing numbers in their respective countries.
