The graph below shows trends in US meat and poultry consumption.
The line graph presents four types consumption of meat and poultry in the United States between 1955 and 2012.
It is clear that the consumption of beef was more than others between 1955 and 1976; it achieved the highest amount of 90 pounds in 1976. At the same period time, the demand of pork was unstable and bottomed up with less than 40 pounds in 1976. Looking at the more detail, the consumption of broilers and turkey started to show up since 1961. The consumption of turkey rose to 10 pounds for each people every year and until hitting a plateau after 1991.
Between 1976 and 1982, the consumption of beef started to plummet nearly 20 pounds while the demand of pork upswing at least 10 pounds. The consumption of broilers exceeded the amount of pork around 50 pounds in 1994; in 2010, it overtook the consumption of beef around 60 pounds. After 2009, each type consumption became as plateau and started to dip.
As a whole, the total demand of meat and poultry was rising from 110 pounds to 180 pounds between 1955 and 2012.
