The graph below shows UK acid rain emissions measured in millions of tonnes from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007

The line chart illustrates the amount of acid rain gases manufactured from four distinct industries in the UK. It is clear that the amount of emissions released from most of the sectors decreased, except for the transport and communication sector. In addition, that of the electricity, gas and water supply sector witnessed the most tremendous reduction over the period.

In 1990, the amount of emissions discharged from the electricity, gas and water supply sector was highest at 3.2 million tonnes, followed by other industries and the transport and communication sector, with over 2 million tonnes and 0.8 million tonnes respectively. Meanwhile, the figure for the domestic sector was lowest, with nearly 0.7 million tonnes. In the next 12 years, the other industries and the domestic sector saw slight decreases in the amount of gases to more than 1.25 million tonnes and 0.3 million tonnes respectively. Although there were a dramatic fall in the quantity of acid rain emission from the electric, gas and water supply and a minimal fluctuation in that of the transport and communication sector, the figures for both sectors were equal with nearly 0,9 million tonnes.

During the remaining years, the other industries and the transport and communication sector continued their downward trends, to 1.2 million tonnes and 0.2 million tonnes respectively in the last year of the period. In terms of the electricity, gas and water supply sector, its figure remained stable from 2002 to 2003, the same as the transport and communication sector. However, there was a recovery in that to 1 million ton before a slight reduction of 0,5 million tonnes from 2005 to 2007. Similarly, this period witnessed a considerable fall to 0,5 million tonnes in that of the electricity, gas and water supply sector.
