The graph shows the amount of fossil fuel energy generated in Europe between 1981 and 2001.

The line graph illustrates information about amount of energy generated by fossil fuel in Europe over the course of 20 years starting from 1981.

Overall, what stands out from the graphs is that there were big fluctuations in the energy generation by 3 sources of fossil fuel. While the energy producing by petroleum and natural gas witnessed an upward trend, that of coal experienced a downward trend. Throughout the period, the amount of energy manufacturing by petroleum registered the highest number out of all groups studied.

Looking at the detail, as regard the energy production by petroleum fuel source, it started at about 35 trillion units in 1981 and then slightly increased to less than 40 trillion units in 1991. During the period of 1996 and 2001, there was a significant rise to reach the peak at 50 trillion units in the amount of energy generating by petroleum fuel. A similar pattern could be seen in the energy manufacture by natural gas fuel, in 1981 the figure was less than 10 trillion units, this was followed by a very steady rise to around 32 trillion units in 2001.

On the contrary, regarding the amount of energy generated by coal, 30 trillion units was generated in the year 1981. After that, the energy production using coal generated less and less energy year by year, by 2001 the figured has declined to less than 20 trillion units.
