The bar chart above depicts the gender proportion of academic staff members among 7 different faculties in a university in 2012. In general, majors such as education and engineering are more gender dominant than arts, business, law, medicine, and science faculties.
In 2012, the number of male academic staff members in the engineering faculty was almost four times higher than the female members which contributed less than 20 percent of total members. The opposite trend can be seen in the education faculty as more than 70 percent of staff members were female. Besides, the science and business faculties also had gender bias in terms of staff members but the bias was only twice as much in favor of male gender which was approximately 62 percent for the business faculty and 63% for the science faculty. The gender was almost equal with the bias rate less or equal than 20 percent in the remaining faculties in which the law faculty got the highest bias rate of 20% after that were arts and medicine faculty with the bias figure of around 5 and 2 percents respectively.
