THE GRAPH SHOWS THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES IN THE US AND JAPAN BETWEEN MARCH 1993 AND MARCH 1999

The given line chart compares the percentages of unemployees in the US and Japan over a span of 6 years, from March 1993 to March 1999.
At a first glance, the US unemployment rate showed a significant decrease whereas the situation in Japan was the opposite, recording a slow increase of unemployees among the same period of time.

In 1993, just more than 7.0 % of US citizens had not a job, but after the number of job opportunities increased bringing to a reduced unemployment rate. Apart from some fluctuations, the US figure constantly decreased up to March of 1999 when the percentage of unemployed workers was just slightly over 4.0 per cent.

In sharp contrast to this, Japan at the beginning of this evaluation counted an highly reduced number of not working citizens, about 2.4 per cent, but next years the Japanese figure rose up to more than 4.5% overcoming the unemployment rate recorded in the US in March 1999 .
It’s interesting to note that there was a period of time between March 1998 and 1999 in which the 2 countries recorded the same exactly proportion of unemployments.
