The graphs below show the number of enrolments into three higher education faculties in the UK.
The graphs illustrate the the number of admissions to different university programs in the UK from 1980 till 2010.
Overall, we can observe that the total number of students has risen throughout all the faculties. In Sciences, the male and female strength has remained somewhat equal throughout, whereas in Arts and Business there were more boys enrolment than girls.
The subject of Science used to be slightly more popular among males in 1980 but due to constant surge in female enrolment, both were admitted in almost equal numbers in 2010, which was close to 700 thousand. Contrary to this, Arts was initially more popular among females but since late 1980s there has been an increased male interest in the subject and according to the graph, they dominated the faculty in 2010 with strength of above 600 thousand.
The subject of Business shows completely different trend to other two, as it had always been more famous among male students. In 1980, there were close to 250 thousand boys studying in this field which was 1.5 times more than the girls. Although enrolment of both genders grew over time, the boys still remained dominant in 2010 with close to 450 thousand strength.
