The first line graph compares three different indicators in terms of the alterations of the British steel industry and the second line graph depicts the number of workers who worked in this field during the period between 1970 and 2000.

Overall, the quantity of steel which was imported into the UK was always the lowest during the period shown. In addition, there was a downward trend in that of employees working in the British steel industry over the surveyed period.

In 2000, the amount of steel provided for the UK was exactly 200,000 million tonnes. By contrast, those for authentic production and imported volume were lower, at about 170,000 and 10,000 million tonnes. From 1970 to 2000, the figure of British requirement for steel plummeted to 100,000 million tonnes. Similarly, there was a tumble in the quantity of steel that the UK manufactured to roughly 80,000 million tonnes during the same period. Meanwhile, that for products which were provided by foreign supply witnessed a significant growth to hit its peak of 70,000 million tonnes over the shown time.

However, the figure for the second chart was totally different. In 1970, the number of blue-collar workers in UK steel sector was the highest, at roughly 50,000 people. Between 1970 and 1990, this figure decreased dramatically to only over 20,000 employees. Likewise, that fell gradually to its lowest point of under 19,000 residents.
