The line graph provided compares the number audiences of radio and television throughout a day in UK in 1992.
Overall, there were more TV audiences than the radio ones during the day. It is obvious that UK people preferred listening to the radio in the morning, whereas watching TV was the more suitable choice in the evening.
At the beginning, the number of audiences of television and radio received approximately 7% and 3% respectively, which TV viewers noticeably accounted for a higher percentage. Following that, both numbers slightly declined to nearly 2.5% at 2 o’clock then came with a small increase to meet each other at around 5% at 6.00 a.m. At the next hours, it is clear that audiences preferred listening to radio to watching TV programmes when the number of radio listeners surpassed that of TV to hit the peak at about 27% at 8, then suddenly decreased to stood at 15% at 1.00 p.m. On the other hand, after some fluctuations, the percentage of TV viewers became great in amount and quickly caught up with that of radio at 1.00 p.m.
Then it continuously increased and climbed up to the top at approximately 45% at 9 o’clock in the evening while the number for radio audiences steadily dropped to 15% at the same point of time. It was not to last when late at night, people became less favorable with these two kinds of entertainment. The numbers showed that after 9.00 o’clock, the percentage of audiences in common experienced a reduction which remained 17% for TV and 4% for radio at midnight.
