The table provided illustrates the shares of students who participated in four different categories of secondary schools from 2000 to 2009.
Overall, while the percentage of pupils studying at community schools significantly increased, the shares of the three other schools witnessed a decline in the number of students. Additionally, voluntary-controlled schools had the highest proportion of learners compared to the others during the time given.
At the beginning, the quantity of students at volutary-controlled schools outstripped those of the two other schools when this type of schools had 52% of students. However, this figure then experienced a significant decline to account for just one fifth, despite obtaining the second highest share in 2009. Similarly, the same trend happened to the remaining schools, except for community schools. Specifically, both specialist and grammar schools showed a drop in the quantity of students. On the contrary, it can be observed that although the share of pupils' attendance at community schools initially began with the equal level as that of specialist schools, this category of schools became the most popular choice at the end of the period, demonstrated by an ultimate development to make up over a half of the total.
