The given table illustrates the proportion of boys divided into two age groups who took part in five particular sports in Britain in 2010.
Overall, in both two shown age groups, while football which was played by the majority of male students made up the largest proportion, the opposite was true for swimming. Additionally, the percentage of boys from 6 to 11 who tend to play sports was strictly higher than their counterparts from 12 to 16, except for the same percentage of swimming.
Regarding the 6-11 age group, the rate of boys playing football was highest, at 87%, followed by the significant lower figure for cricket, at 45%, and basketball, at 35%. Meanwhile, those playing rugby and swimming were the lowest, at 23% and 19% respectively.
For the male students from 12 to 16, the percentage of boys taking part in football was also the most prevalent sports, at 78%. Moreover, in comparison with the 6-11 age group, the roughly 10% lower was witnessed in the figures for three out of five categories which were football, basketball and cricket. By contrast, the figures for rugby and swimming which were around one-fifth were approximately the same as the remaining group.
