The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons were relevant.

The pie chart illustrates the causes of an agriculture land losing its efficient productivity. Also, the table further elaborates how these reasons affected land in North America, Europe and Oceania during the decade of 1990s.

Overall, more than half of causes are related, either directly or indirectly, to our food demand and cultivation habits. Vast majority of the degradation was due to overgrazing, over-cultivation and deforestation, whereas a small chunk could also be blamed on other causes. Region-wise, Europe seemed to have taken a huge loss compared to the rest.

Throughout the world, overgrazing cattle accounted for 35 percent of total devastation, which is the highest percentage. Second was deforestation and third was over-cultivation at 30 percent and 28 percent respectively. Lastly, 7 percent of deforestation was due to certain other causes.

Now, if we observe the causes of damage to land's fertility, all the regions seem to have different problems. In North America, a total of 5 percent land has been degraded and most of it due to over-cultivation (3.3 percent). Europe has lost 23 percent of its fertile land, the highest among the three, and the main factor was deforestation (97.7 percent). Similarly, Oceania also lost a significant portion of its land (13 percent) to deforestation, and the main cause there seemed to be overgrazing cattle (11.3 percent).
