The Proportions of Pupils Attending Four Secondary School Types Between 2000 and 2009.
The table shows the percentage of students going to four different Secondary schools (Specialist, Grammar, Voluntary-controlled and Community schools) in three time periods between 2000 and 2009.
Overall, Voluntary-controlled schools had the maximum participation by the students in the initial year but over the years it decreased quite significantly. Opposite to this, Community schools were one of the least attended schools by pupils in the starting year however, this trend changed dramatically till the last year where Community schools became the most famous among the children.
In the year 2000, almost half of the children attended voluntary-controlled schools however there was a significant drop in percentage of students in the next 8 years where only one-fifth of the students were interested in Voluntary-controlled schools. In contrast to this, Specialist schools saw a very insignificant decrease of only 2% over the years and in 2009, one-tenth of the pupils went to Specialist schools.
Students enrolled in Grammar schools dropped to half the number in 2009 as compared to 24% in the initial year. But on the contrary, Community schools showed almost threefold increase in first four years where nearly one-third of the children attended their schools. This trend further continued and the number of students in Community schools almost doubled from 2005 to 2009 where it had around 60% students attending their schools.
