some people believe that young people should be responsible for maintaining national traditions

Essay topics:

some people believe that young people should be responsible for maintaining national traditions.

People have different views about whether or not young people have a responsibility to maintain national traditions. While those who support the maintenance of social traditions completely have their own arguments, I am more convinced that young generations should be in full control of their own life.

Following social traditions has its merits and demerits for young people's future. To start with, it is true that social traditions educate young people about their country's history and learn to appreciate their unique cultures. Take Tet holiday, which is one of the perennial holidays in VietNam as an example. It is a meaningful time for togetherness when all the members in the family rekindle love and bonding without the generation gap. By contrast, some social traditions are often outdated, obsolete and are no longer suitable in the modern world. A large number of critical rules about women such as arranged and loveless marriages or were powerless and abused as servants which have existed many years should be eradicated.

On the other hand, young people should have the freedom to act like an individual. Nowadays, youngsters are constantly gaining their knowledge either about academic sides or social perspectives. This means that they have full ability to judge which rituals they should follow and under which circumstance should not they do. In addition, social traditions limit creativity and innovations in society. For example, the fashionable industry could not progress if the young rigidly followed the traditional clothes which have vintage styles and previous patterns.

In conclusion, although rituals have optimistic effects on youngsters in some ways, I always believe that young generations ought to be free to shape their own lifestyles.
