The table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities.
The table compares six underground networks, which are demonstrated in terms of their ages, size and the number of people using them annually, in 6 major cities.
Overall, it is clear that the three oldest underground railway systems are larger and serve more passengers each year compared to newer networks.
London underground railway system is the oldest and biggest one, which was built in 1863 and has 394 kilometers of the route. Paris is the second largest and serves more passengers than the former, 1191 million people every year. While only third in terms of size, Tokyo welcomes the most users, at 1927 million people each year.
The three newer underground railway systems are Washington DC, Kyoto, and Los Angeles. The first one is the most extensive, with 126 kilometers of the route, compared to just 11 and 28 kilometres of route of the second and the third respectively. As a result, Washington DC network serves 144 million people every year, nearly 3 times higher than that of the other two.
