I am Mark Miller, senior project engineer in the Department of Engineering, and I am writing this letter seeking your approval on my emergency leave request, which has been attached herewith, for seven days due to domestic issues.
This is because my wife has a serious illness and doctors have recently decided her need for a critical surgery, which has been scheduled on next 16th April. I have no choice to be with her in such hard times and what makes it a bit harder is that she does not have any relatives or family here in Cairo as she comes from Alexandria.
Therefore, I would ask to be off two days ahead of the operation to do all the required preparation and 5 days after till she would recover and hopefully get back to normal. Thus, my days off would be starting from 14th to 20th April if it was thankfully approved.
Concerning work arrangement and who could act during my absence, Mr. Chris Mike has been working as my assistant for so long now, probably more than 5 years, and he is competent and capable of running the show without any problems. I have already informed him about these family circumstances and handed over all details related to the current projects and he is more than ready to take his responsibilities in addition to his own ones during this period.
