Dear XYZ,
I would like to pay my sincere apologies for coming late to the office in the past few weeks. I am sure that you will hear my side of the story and understand the situation I was in for several days.
My car broke down due to engine failure beginning of this month as a result of which I was totally dependent on public transport. The biggest issue is that currently there is no end to end transport available from my home to the office and vice versa. The Shuttle bus service plying on the office route picks me up from 1.5 Kms away from my home and drops me off approximately 2.5 Kms away from the office, thereby, leaving me with no option other than local taxi service which is actually very scarce. Walking in this severe weather is not a suitable option otherwise I would have exercised it already. Therefore, in total it takes me at least 2.5-3 hours to reach office via public transport and hence the late entry time.
I had spoken with the car service center manager and he has assured me that the car will be back in running condition within the next 2-4 days. I have also managed to convince a colleague of mine, who happens to live near my home location, for a car pool so that I can reach office on time & also save my transportation costs.
