You borrowed an important textbook during the last term from a classmate. You now realize your classmate has returned home overseas and you still have the book.
Write a letter to him/her.
In your letter:
• apologize for the mistake
• find out how important the book is to him/her
• say what you will do
Dear Itti,
I am writing this mail to let you know that a book of yours, which I had borrowed from you in the last term, is lying with me. I found it while rearranging my books in my room’s library.
# missed purpose
I am extremely sorry for this as I did not realise that your book titled, Leadership, authored by Andrew J. DuBrinwas with me until I found it in my resource centre while sorting my old books. I was in the middle of placing my new books on the shelves and this book, which also happened to be one of your favourites, just fell off the shelf.
I am not sure if you need this book now as our degree is over. In case you are enrolling yourself in higher studies, where this book or subject may be a part of the curriculum, then share your mailing address so that I can send it to you through a courier. Alternatively, I have a soft copy of the same which I can email to you for your ease and reference.
Once again, I apologise for this mistake as it was totally unintentional. I look forward for a prompt reply from you so that a timely action can be taken.
Yours Sincerely/truly,
Navpreet
