I am writing this letter to request an extension to the deadline for returning two books which I borrowed from the college library last week but I am afraid cannot return them in time.
The due date to return these books is two days later. Unfortunately, I just received my grandmother has been admitted to the hospital in my hometown due to her heart failure. After I received the bad news, I catch a flight to return to my hometown immediately. I will probably stay in my hometown for a couple of days. Therefore, I cannot return these two books in time. I sincerely request you not to impose a penalty or late fee on me considering the grave situation and my previous borrowing records.
