Some people think that everyone has the right to have access to university education, and that government should make it free for all students no matter what financial background they have. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

It is argued that all people are privileged to pursue higher education and the tuition fee should be sponsored completely by the state regardless to the budgets of students. In my opinion, I totally agree with this idea.

On the one hand, tuition free in higher education institutions may trigger some problems. Firstly, it can impose a financial burden on state budget as the government must cover all academic costs for students. For instance, Finland government used to provide both domestic and international students with 100% scholarships for tuition fees; however, this policy is going to stop from the spring semester in 2017 (for international only) because of insufficient budget. Secondly, although the idea is considered as an educational revolution as well as a study promotion policy, the developing and underdeveloped countries may find it impossible to implement as they should spend the expenditure properly to address other pressing social issues such as unemployment or poverty alleviation.

On the other hand, I believe that it would be of greater benefits for educational and the economic aspects. From the educational standpoint, students will be encouraged to pursue higher education, which means more skillful labor force in the future. If high costs for further education prevent students from accessing, it is now no longer a problem. Moreover, proficient labor force is closely linked with a drive for the economy. They will contribute greatly to solve economic problems and are able to prevent economic crisis. As a result, other related social issues like unemployment and poverty can be tackled.

In conclusion, it seems to me that tuition free at universities is more advantageous and should be encouraged.
