Nowadays, not enough students choose science subjects in university in many countries. What are the reasons for this problem? What are the effects on the society?

In the modern world, there is a lack of students who choose science subjects in universities in many countries. The reason for this phenomenon is the difficulty of studying and very high requirements for getting a scholarship in scientific spheres. Also, it may cause a lack of competitive scientists in the future and regress in science. In the following essay, I will give the reasons and effects on the society of this trend, using examples from real life and my personal experience.

In order to get into studying science subjects student needs to know the basics of these courses, but some of them may seem to be challenging. For example, the basics of biology consist of hundreds of pages of material, and learning all of them requires high passion and determinacy. Moreover, getting a scholarship for a scientific program is really hard due to the requirements of colleges and universities. For instance, most of the American universities ask for ‘‘SAT Subject’’ and ‘‘SAT Reasoning’’, which are very difficult to handle. That is why most of the students do not choose science.

This trend affects the competitiveness of scientists because a small number of experts cause low competitiveness and quality of these specialists. The number of research and investigations drops, causing a huge decrease in new technologies and techniques. The society will not like this trend since new technologies tend to make the life of people easier and more comfortable.

In a nutshell, choosing scientific subjects is decreasing due to their difficulty. I fell that it negatively affects society.
