Some people believe that to be successful at sport you need a natural ability and others think that hard work and practice can make you successful. Discuss both views and give your opinion ?

Many people would argue that success at a sport can be related to an innate talent, while others would claim that such achievement can be gained by regular training and persistence. This essay will discuss both opinions and present the support of the latter view, as practice is essential to acquire excellence in any sport.

On the one hand, there are athletes who where born to be naturally successful in certain sports. This means that their genetics contribute to their natural ability to play a specific game, therefore not much hard work is needed to perform remarkably great compared to other players not naturally gifted. A good illustration is Usain Bolt, considered the faster man alive, who showed, since early age, an impressive aptitude for running, which made him the most famous sprinter in recent times. Thus, people support the idea that predisposition to become an outstanding player requires an inborn talent after all.

On the other hand, lie the sportsmen who devoted their lives to achieve greatness through hard working and numerous training sessions. Although they lack a natural talent, they compensate it by putting much more effort into their passion. The main reason to believe that practice makes perfect is the preparation behind it. Therefore, expert players tend to perform better than those who are born gifted but are unexperienced, as high performance athletes need to practice every day to excel in their profession. For instance, Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best soccer player in the world, is the first to arrive for training and the last to leave, as he knows that excellence requires sacrifices and ability comes from preparation. Therefore, it is easy to see that natural talent still does not diminish the great importance of practicing and training.

To conclude, success does not come easily; having an innate talent is not enough, thereby hard work and experience are still crucial tools to make a successful athlete.
