Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Scientific discoveries should be shared around the world. Government should not keep it privately.
The scientific world is experiencing an era of fast development. In this case, a minimum advancement can be essential in pushing some specific technique forward. There have been debates over whether a scientific discovery should go public or stay private. From my perspective, I believe that sharing the science advancement should be advocated.
With an increasing influence of globalization, different countries are in close connection with each other in areas of economy, politics and of course, science. Under such circumstances, a single scientific accomplishment in one country can have great impact worldwide. In other words, a simple scientific act can have an unpredictably enlarged consequences either in a desired way or not. Therefore, if a scientific discovery that is associated with human well-being gets submerged by the government, the benefit of human as a whole will be hampered.
In addition, communication and sharing trigger the inspiration that cannot be attained by oneself, this rule is also true in scientific world. Once a discovery is published, numerous discussions and academic seminars will emerge, which is exactly what we need to achieve a breakthrough. Take the developing process of information technology as an example, the developing speed at first was steady but slow, but it sped up after the invention of the Internet. It was sharing that made the most intelligent people in the world gather their wisdom, then an advancement was achieved ten times faster than it was before.
Undeniably that some risks can be caused if countries all begin sharing news in science. For example, some evil person may be able to utilize the newly acquired knowledge from other countries to make weapons, drugs or anything that can severely endanger the world. However, this lurking danger can still be effectively curbed as long as a comprehensive censoring system is founded.
In conclusion, scientific discoveries are the common wealth of human, so a nation is not supposed to keep them as secrets. Sharing scientific discoveries allows scientific developments to benefit people internationally and can prompt innovations in a remarkable scale.
