In terms of whether the online encyclopedias are less valuable than traditional ones, the reading and listening are contradictory to each other.
Firstly, the writer makes the point that there are many errors in online encyclopedia. However, the professor demonstrates a different idea that the traditional encyclopedia also has errors, and it is harder to be connected than those in online encyclopedia.
What’s more, contrary to the belief in the reading passage that the online encyclopedia gives many chances of fabricating, deleting and corrupting information to the hackers, the lecturer says that the online encyclopedia has two ways to protect it from being hacked. One is setting the accurate information in a read-only format. The other is hiring some people to monitor any changes made to the original encyclopedia.
Finally, the author states that the online encyclopedia creates a false impression of what is important and what is not. In contrast, the speaker refutes that it’s the one of the strongest advantages that reflects the diverse interests of the public.
