The reading passage is about the influence of American comic strip art on rest of the world.
The lecture present key points which opposes the claim in the passage. First, the claim that comic book strip are uniquely american art form is proved false by the lecturer by providing fact that the Hogan’s Alley comic itself was written by a canadian author and it is based on the immigrants.

Second point which the lecturer provides was the fact that the first super hit comic which was superman as claimed in the passage was not the first one which got huge success. He provides an example of Titin which was a popular comic strip written by a belgian author way before spiderman came out , it is popular even today.

Third point which the lecturer provides is about the american influence on japanese manga. He disagree with the claim that the manga comic was inspired by the american comics post world war II.He states that the asian art was the main motivation behind the success of japanese manga.

And then finally he states that although Disney comic was invented in America, Smurfs and Asterix were written by the European people and they had their own style of writing.
