Did bees (a type of insect) exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago? Such a theory is supported by the discovery of very old fossil structures that resemble bee nests. The structures have been found inside 200- million-year-old fossilized trees i

The passage and lecture are arguing over whether the old found fossil structure proves that bees existed on earth as early 200 million years ago. The author rejects this idea by providing three reasons. On the contrary, the professor believes this old fossil structure belonged to bees and reject these reasons one by one.

firstly, in the passage is said that there the oldest fossils of bee have been found is 100 milion years old and there is no fossil that prove the bees lived in 200 million years ago. On the other side, the professor believes that this reason is not convincing, since there should be specific circumstanc for preserving the bees' bodies. Therefore, it is unlikely to find a 200 years tree which preserved a bee's structure.

Secondly, the author mentions that there were no flowers in 200 years ago which bees feed from them. However, the professor explains that bees might provide their food for some non flowering like fur and pine trees. Hence, the bees change their source of food after advent of the flowers.

Finally, the passage author maintains that this found structure does not have one specific feature of the bees's nest and it might be the nest of other insects. In contrast, the professor rebuts this point and she asserts that some chemical analysis indicates that some water proof substance of this fossil is similar to moderns'.
