The professor said that the points made in the reading passage is over stated. According to the author, Rococo style was uninspired because of the shallow subject matters so Rococo style pictures are criticised since the nineteenth century. The following reasons made by the speaker would support his opinion.
First, Rococo artists worked with aristcrats so the paintings expressed their arrogance and symbol of their classes. However, the lecturer shows that the painter draw pictures for well off so many paintings are stored in church today. The church is the meeting place for people at lower classes too because of the religious thus it is not only for people own great money.
Second, Rococo style focused on express normal life style so they often paint non-serious object or events such as a couple enjoying a swing together. These unspecial subject is scorned sometime however the professor points that even they enjoy normal lifestyle issue in the picture, the painter putted an effort into details such as facial expression. Therefore, it is hardly to say that Rococo style artists are superficial.
Finally, using of expensive equipments gave a bad impression. In contrast, the professor thinks that the Rococo style was a forerunner to us today. The materials and effection they have used are totally new at that time. For example, the asymmetrical designes and the light usage as a melodramatic are needed to express their ideas. Therefore, the Rococo style should be reputed as good as other methods of painting style.
