Edmontosaur's migration hypothesis

Essay topics:

Edmontosaur's migration hypothesis

The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in the topic of edmontosaur's migrating hypothesis. First of all, the reading says that the edmontosaur's diet can support this idea because they need to migrate to find enough food to eat. However, the listening argues that edmontosaurs actually do not need to migrate for food. In ancient time, the climate is warm, so many plants were grown in this place. Therefore, edmontosaurs can get food in their normal habitat. In other words, there is no need for edmontosaurs to migrate for food.

Secondly, while the reading suggests that evidence had show that edmontosaurs lived in herd and many modern migration animals also live in herd, the listening asserts that this fact does not solve the problem. The reason of animals that live in herd is not only for migration, but also for other reasons such as more protection to avoid predators. The listening also give an example of a specie of elk that live in herd but the purpose in not for migration. Indeed, edmontosaus live in herd does not show any evidence that they will migrate in the winter.

Last but not least, the reading indicates that adult edmontosaurs were physically capable of migrating long distances. However, the listening argues that young edmontosaurs cannot travel for long distances. If they have a long travel, the young will be able to follow the group, and since the herd will not abandon their young, the whole group will be stuck. At the end, it will be dangerous for edmontosaurs because it is extremely difficult for them to survive in the harsh winter condition. To say it differently, even though edmontosaurs can travel in long distance, it is not a good idea for them to do so.
