In an effort to encourage ecologically sustainable forestry practices, an international organization started issuing certifications to wood companies that meet high ecological standards by conserving resources and recycling materials. Companies that rece

The reading and the lecture are both about ecocertified american wood companies and the interest of americans to their products. The author thinks american wood compangnies will not seak for ecocertification for three reasons. However, the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article.

First of all, the author claims that the American consumers don’t trust in advertsement and are not intrestes to the ecocertified values of american wood. This point is challenged by the lecturer who says that studies show that american customers are pay really attention to the ecocertified products. They are confident toward independant ecologically friendly agencies.

Second, the author states that American consumers are likely motivated by price. He argues that they are more intrested in the cheap uncertified wood than in expensive certified wood. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She suggests that although american are attracted by cheaper products, they really pay attetion to the certified wood because there is not a big price difference. The certified wood s only 5% more costly than the uncertified product. She elaborates that in this case, american would choose the certified agencies.

Finally, the author mentions that pursuing ecocertification is advantageous to american wood companies only in the international market. The lecturer on the other hand, states that since American consumers are really attracted by ecological product, the domestic wood compagnies should adopt ecologically practices. She puts forth the idea that if they don’t so, the american consumer interest will be captured by foreign competitors
