Essay topics:

fine lines seen in Sinosauropteryx's fossil which was preserved in volcanic ash

Both the reading and the lecture discuss fine lines seen in Sinosauropteryx's fossil which was preserved in volcanic ash and talk about the interpretation of those fine lines as evidence of existence of feather in Sinosauropteryx's anatomy structure. The reading mentions three reasons made by some critics. They have denied the existence of feather in Sinosauropteryx resulting of fine lines on the skeletons of them. The professor disagrees with the idea presented in reading and denies each reason of it.
In the first place, the passage states that the fine line is rooted in the decomposition of Sinosauropteryx's dead body. In the critics view such a fine line couldn't represent the structure of a living dinosaur but it could result from the skin fibers after decomposition. The professor refutes this by noting that any animal placed same as Sinosauropteryx didn't show any decomposition and even their bodies preserved in a good way in volcanic ash. She saw their alleged inconceivable.

Secondly, according to passage, such a fine line is more probable to remain of frills, another part of a dinosaur's structure. The professors contradict this by pointing out to the result of chemical analysis of Sinosauropteryx's fine line. It indicated that the fine line's chemical are the same of Sinosauropteryx's feather chemical, not frills.

Thirdly, the reading contends that place of the fine lines in this skeleton isn't in the place in which the flying of Sinosauropteryx, usual function of feathers, prove. The professors reject this alleged by saying that the feathers have different function. She provides an example of a specific bird that has colorful feathers on their tail. They use it to attract mate. She uses of this example to illustrate one probable function of Sinosauropteryx's feathers.
