Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture, yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds. Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air, millions of birds are harmed every year when they try to fly through glass window

Both reading and listening discuss a problem which birds face. The reading states that people can protect the birds from injuries which stem from glasses and provide several solutions. However, the listening says that these theories won’t work and refutes each author’s reasons.

The first solution which used by article is one way mirror glasses which transparent only one side. If the birds cannot see inside of buildings, they will not try to fly inside of them. Hence, they will not injury. On the contrary, the speaker claim that one way glasses won’t stop bird to injury. They are bad as normal glasses. Birds will try to fly through one side glasses since they reflect other side such tree or another.

Secondly, the reading says that the glasses which has colorful design might solve the problem. If people paint regular glasses, it may prevent the birds to fly in it. Conversely, the lecturer say that colorful glasses has also some negative outcome. The birds will see these glasses as open hole and will fly inside of it. Furthermore, these glasses also is not okay for people since they make inside darkness.

Finally, the article posit that people keep the birds away from buildings by using magnetic field. They can use powerful electromagnets which product signals to prevent the birds. In contrast, the professor posit that the idea of magnetic field will not figure out problems. The birds use it when the migrate long distances but in short trip they use their eyes and reflect of shine.
