The passage and lecture are both about occasion of sea otter demise in aquatic area around western coast of America. The lecturer presumes that otters were attacked by predators. By contrast, the author of the passage, however, doubts this idea and thinks that, sea otters were perished by predators.

For one, the author claims that environmental contamination is source of sea otter’s death. On the other hand, the lecturer asserts that since no one has observed carrions of otters in waters along western coast of America, the hypothesis indicated in the passage seems to be less likely to arise.

Next, the lecturer argues that although orcas hunt whale, but they prefer to substitute their diet by smaller mammals.
The author, however, is proposing that sea otters are not the only creatures being declined in marine area of western shore of America. But the sea mammals in those marine regions were deceasing as well.

Lastly, the lecturer goes on to say that as orcas are large they cannot swim in shallow waters. Consequently, in shallow water area one can find less otter corpses. On the contrary, the author writes that scientists believed that the pollution hypothesis could also explain the uneven pattern of otter decline.

All in all, the lecturer and author appear to be in disagreement about the how sea otter were declined.
