Both the reading and listening discuss how the edmotosaurs survived the harsh arctic winter in the North slope. To begin with, the author suggests that edmotosaurs migrate to temperate areas to get plants to feed on since they were herbivorous. The lecturer challenges this specific argument by asserting that edmotosaurs do not have to migrate to get food, because 100 millions years ago the North slope was warmer than nowadays and the sun shone 24 hours daily in the summer. Consequently, the growing vegetation in summer was good enough to feed the edmotosaurs and they can eat the dead vegetation during winter .
Secondly, the writer argues that edmotosaurs' skeletons that were found in the same area supported that they lived in herds, which edmotosaurs helped with the migration coordination. The lecturer, however, rebuts this point by mentioning that living in herds could be for other purposes like extra protection from their predators. For instance, Rosvilt elk, in the western United States, live in herds and do not migrate. Based on that, the migration hypothesis is not correct.
Finally, the author posits that edmotosaurs had the physical abilities to travel for long distances, and they were swift animals that can run with very high speed up to Km Per hour, which supports that they migrate using the locomotive power every winter to warmer zone. In contrast, the lecturer cast doubt on this claim by stating that even if the adults were physically able to migrate far distances, the young edmotosaurs can not do that because of their limited physical ability . Thus, the herd can not migrate without the juveniles since they were not able to survive the harsh conditions in the North Pole.
