Starting in the 1960s and continuing until the 1980s sailors in Russian submarines patrolling the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean would occasionally hear strange sounds These underwater noises reminded the submarine crews of frog croaks so they called

Both the reading and listening discuss the source of the quackers which are underwater strange sounds heard by the sailors during patrolling of the Russian submarines in the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean. The author  believes that there are possible theories about that sound. The lecturer challenges the claims made by the author. She is of the opinion that none of these theories are correct.
To begin with, the author suggests that Orca whales are the source of the  quakers since they  are available in the patrolling area and they use this sound to attract the males for mating. The lecturer challenges this argument by asserting that the Orca whales are most unlikely the source of these sounds. The Orca whales live near the water surface of the ocean, but the submarine sail deep in the ocean, which makes it very hard for the sailors to hear their sound. In addition, she mentions that Orca whales could be easily detected by the Russian sonar.
Secondly, the writer argues that giant squids are the cause of the quakers since it is very hard to be detected by the sonar  and they can emit similar sounds. The lecturer, however, refutes this point by  claiming that these strange sounds had been detected in 1960 and it lasted for 2 decades. In other words, these strange sounds appeared suddenly and completely disappeared  by 1980. Based on that, the giant squids can not be considered the reason for the sounds since they  still live in the patrolling area till now.
Finally, the author posits that the noisy sounds were from secret submarines from foreign countries  that intentionally make it undetectable by sonar  for military purposes. In contrast, the lecturer cast doubt on this by pointing out that there was no engine noise accompanied by these sounds and the sound was very fast that indicates the submarine moves swiftly and changes their direction frequently.  Moreover, she mentions that even the current and modern technology could not develop that fast submarine and silent engine. So, This theory is not  correct.
